Secret of Dead Review

Secret of Dead is part of Play'n GO's Dead series. Play'n GO describes it as a mix of two earlier games: the expanding symbols of Legacy of Dead and the extra sixth reel of Scroll of Dead.

Six reels, ten lines

The grid has six reels of three rows and ten fixed lines, so five or six of a kind are possible. The explorer Shai and the ankh pay the most: 5,000× the line bet for six, and already 20× for two. The cat statue pays up to 2,000× and the snake and scarab up to 1,000×.

The ankh is both wild and scatter. Three to six ankhs anywhere pay 1×, 10×, 50× or 250× the stake.

Secret of Dead Features

Free spins with expanding symbols

Scatters award free spins; the catalogue lists 8, 10, 12 and 15. Before the round, one standard symbol is chosen to expand over any reel it lands on, and it pays without needing adjacent reels. If Shai is chosen, his wins are doubled. Three or more scatters during the round add five spins and a second expanding symbol, and enough retriggers make every symbol expand.

Gamble

Wins can be gambled on a card's colour (double) or suit (quadruple).

RTP and maximum win

Play'n GO quotes a maximum of 10,000× the bet. The catalogue lists a 96% RTP in its stats and 96.2% in its text, and high volatility; Play'n GO games often run at several RTP settings, so check the game's info screen.

Secret of Dead Pros and Cons

  • Multiple expanding symbols on retriggers
  • 10,000× maximum

Limitations

  • High volatility
  • RTP varies by casino setting

Our Verdict

Secret of Dead adds a sixth reel to the familiar Dead-series book formula, which raises the ceiling of the expanding-symbol free spins.
